A sunny and clear spring day at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Chatham, New York provided an appropriate setting for Elite Spring Selections II Sale on Saturday, April 27th . Ken Main and Peter Vail sponsored their second offering of quality Brown Swiss by public auction and they were well received. The attractive lineup included a cross section of Elite Dairy’s growing herd of Brown Swiss. An aggressive embryo transfer program thru careful matings has produced an outstanding group of homebred heifers and outstanding young cows featured in this year’s offering.

The Elite Spring Selections II presale activities attracted a large gathering from across the country and Canada on Friday evening. The cattle viewing, social, and delicious barbecue were enjoyed by all including breeders that had attended the Woodmansee and friends Holstein Sale held at the same site earlier in the day. A few of these prominent breeders added a little color and quality to their holdings on Saturday.

The sale started promptly with introduction of Elite owners, Ken Main and Peter Vail, who welcomed and thanked the crowd for sharing the day. Also introduced as members of the sales force as well as representing the Brown Swiss Association were Executive Secretary Dave Wallace and National President Lee Barber. The sale was managed by Modern Associates, St. Paris, Ohio with Wayne E. Sliker making announcements and Darrell Worden handling the gavel. Fielding bids from the crowd and the phones, the active ringmen included Brian Garrison, Lee Barber, Gordon De May, and Dave Wallace. Tim Coon and crew handled preparation and had the cattle in great shape thru the week and on sale day.

Bill Taylor, Mikey Barton, Kyle Barton, Lauren Osborn, Tim Perotti, Erich Mc Enroe, Jodi Hoynoski, Colleen Smith,  and Ella Main presented the cattle in the ring. Connie Sliker, Deb Hoffman and Cindy Worden handled clerking duties.

Number one in the catalog was also first in the ring as well as first on the high sellers' list at $49,000. Jo Dee Wonderment Nuclear ET “VG89/2y” sold carrying contracts, an All American Nomination and a great future. After widespread bidding that included 4 active after $40,000, Nuclear sold to Sunshine Associates, Whitewater, WI with Ron Kelm, Markesan, WI the contender.

Cutting Edge S Wedding ET “VG87/2y” was next on the high seller list at $20,100. A lengthy bidding duel finished with Ron Szegda winning the privilege of adding this Whizzbang granddaughter to his Columbia, CT herd. Maurcio Moreno placed the final contending bid.

A fancy June 2012 Bonanza daughter from the high selling Nuclear brought $13,000 from Bob Gould, Hadley, MA. On many shopping lists, Cutting Edge Never Better, will see summer and fall action at the shows.

Still in five figures, Cutting Edge B Firefly ET brought $10,000 and will make her new home in Canada with Brown Haven, Fred Mathys and Swiss Dream Farm. This sporty December 2012 Bonanza is from Round Hill Prem Lil Fern ET “E93/Reserve All American" and 5th generation “EX” show winner.
